May Day was officially celebrated on May 1st.

A day associated with fertility (livestock, crops, and people), the day was chosen because planting is finished by this time and it was convenient to give the day off for laborers.

May Day is generally accompanied by dancing around the maypole by young women with ribbons, the selection of a May Queen, and Morris dancing.
