Nothing is known of Lailoken's life up to his bardic career with Gwenddoleu.
Career[]
Lailoken was serving as Gwenddoleu's bard when they fought at Arfderydd. There his lord died and he ran into the Caledonian Forests, where he stayed for many years.
He spent twenty years in the wild and finally emerged in the kingdom of [[Strat Clut. There he was brought before Kentigern. He delivered the bishop his prophecy about the time of his death before disappearing back into the forests again. Lailoken was never seen again.
Personality[]
As a bard, the concept of learning and entertaining must have intrigued him. However, he must also have been very loyal to Gwenddoleu. His madness as a result of his king's death was unusual, and speaks of that devotion. Once insane, he seems not to have hurt anybody but he also could not keep the company of fellow humans. His interview with Kentigern lasted only a few hours.
