Political Significance[]

From the late fifth century until the the eleventh, the kingdom of Guenodotia would be a dominant British power in Britain. It is possible Maelgwn fathered a king of the Picts, his son Run was legendary for his campaign against the northern kingdoms. A Cadwallon would lead a devastating raid into Northumbria during the seventh century.

History[]

Controlled initially by a loose contingent of Irish clans, the island of Mon was slowly reconquered by a native British dynasty beginning in the fifth century. The process left a kingdom in control of an isolated region, effectively rendering it immune from invasion.

Beginning with Maelgwn, that conquest would extend onto the mainland, resulting by 900 in the conquest of medieval Wales.
