Childhood[]

Born to Caw, King of Gwyngwn, Gildas was one of many sons. He was put into a monastery at the age of five for his own protection. He soon took to the different atmosphere, impressing all of his teachers, being transferred to the most knowledgeable man on the island Illtud within a couple years, and eventually becoming his best student.

Career[]

As a graduate of Llanilltud, Gildas was able to travel throughout England and Wales, earning requests for help via letter and in person on numerous occasions. He was asked to rebuild the church in Ireland after Columba left and wrote letters about his opinion on the running of monasteries. During this time he had direct communications with Cadoc, Uinniau, David, and Brendan, among many others.

At some point in his career he began a monastery in Erechwydd and taught Maelgwn. His most famous accomplishment was the writing of De Excidio Britanniae.
