All that is known of Cynri's childhood is that he was the son of a woodsman.

Cynri was only an active warrior for one summer, but in that time he distinguished himself. He was considered one of the three strongest new warriors in the battle between the seasoned and the young. Bedwyr chose him to lie in ambush before Arthur's meeting with Dinogad. In his first battle he saved Gwaeddnerth from being stabbed in the back and received a leg wound as a result. He also went along with Anwas on a bird hunt. He fought under Ceneu's banner against Gwrwst's former unbens. He died in battle against Ceredig in front of Luguvalium

Cynri's personality could best be described as eager - eager to be a good warrior, to please the other men, to be respected. He was also naive, as his thoughts on Ceredig's kingship showed. He was unaware that the mystical symbolism of king's wife to the land was not real.
