Nothing is known about his childhood, although considering his strong sense of honor he is believed to have been raised by a family with unusually strong morals and ethics.
Cynan is new to the teulu, and as such has hardly proven himself. He was chosen by Bedwyr and the other seasoned warriors as one of the three best of the new recruits in the mock battle between the seasoned men and the young warriors, however. He was chosen to lie in ambush for Dinogad before his first meeting with Arthur. He fought well in his first battle, defeating two warriors before saving Cynri's life. He fought with Ceneu at the battle against Gwrwst's former unbens adequately in the battle against Ceredig in front of Luguvalium.
Though a new warrior, he has already demonstrated a strong sense of honor and integrity. He wants to be a great fighter, but he wants to do it the right way. This has already impeded his development, as his focus on perfect form in balance in combat makes him predictable and leaves him vulnerable.
Cynan has also demonstrated both an unusual knowledge of peasant lore and the proper modesty of a man with his standing in the teulu. He actually blushed when Cian asked to be educated by him in folklore.
