Coracle, much like St. Brendan used

Modern coracle, is a primitive boat.

Generally oval in shape, the structure is made of a framework of split and interwoven willow rods, tied with willow bark. The outer layer was made of animal skin such as a horse, with a thin layer of tar to make it fully waterproof

Though not large or sturdy enough for general use on the sea, the cwrwgl worked well on the rivers and lakes of Britain. Each river tended to have a different design to best suit the nuances they presented.
