Nothing is known of Carincinalis' early life, though he was probably trained from age five and was considered an exceptional student. This is what allowed him to continue in a religious life through adulthood.

Carincinalis was an abbot from Glywising. He traveled to Strat Clut as one of many holies discussing the validity of Patrick's bishopric following his letters to Ceredig. He is known to have been Selyf's teacher.

A very old, certain, but curious man, Carincinalis believed that no life was wasted as long as it was spent in a person's passion. He found Arthur's hall curious and took as much from it as he gave to its lord.
