As the product of a Pictish princess and a temporary union with Maelgwn, Brude was from conception groomed to be the next king. As such he would have been educated by druids and bards in culture, and by warriors in battle.

Brude ascended the throne and was able to rule it well. His acceptance of Christianity at the hands of Columba was the final piece to the puzzle of the Picts, and his people would be converted by the end of his reign. His promise of peace with Dalriada and Strat Clut, negotiated through Columba, would last long after his death.

Though a product of two cultures, he was not raised with the British. Instead he was lead to believe that the Picts were the superior people. His experiences with Columba forced him to rethink that philosophy. Doing so made it easier for him to accept the Dalriadans and peace with the kingdom of Strat Clt while he focused his energies on uniting and strengthening the Pictish people.
