Mead or Bragawt, was a favored drink among the elite in post-Roman Britain.

Mead/Bragawt was made by fermenting honey in water, occasionally with fruits, spices, grains, or hops.

According to contemporary poetry, mead/bragawt was used in feasts. The beverage was considered central to the occasion. A man dying in battle was said to have "paid for his mead".
