Aedan was raised in an atmosphere only slightly above blatant piracy, in which his father Gabran was the leader of one of three major pirate clans of Argyll.

Raised to the kingship of a united Dalriada in spite of Columba's favorite Eoganan, Aedan would forge a strong dynasty that would survive centuries and eventually unite all of Scotland.
